The Indian cricket team has had their share of amazing captains from legend Kapil Dev to Sourav Ganguly to Virat Kohli, but every legend must retire someday. Team India is now looking for a new captain to fill the shoes of another legend Rohit Sharma, it would be hard but it must be done. Here are 3 players who we think should be considered for the captaincy for the Indian Cricket team.
Rishabh Pant
If there’s anyone who is sure to be a candidate for the captaincy it is Rishab Pant. Pant was exposed to captaincy very early in his career, he was appointed as the captain of the Delhi team during Ranji Trophy even before his debut with India, he is also the captain of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
Pant has also led the Indian team in the T20I series against South Africa when regular captains were not available. Pant is a great cricketer who can perform well under pressure which he has proved time and again, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rishab Pant gets appointed as the next captain for the Indian team.
Prithvi Shaw
What does a captain need? Handle pressure? Well, Prithvi Shaw has been doing that for years now, and he’s doing it well. Sometimes so well that he gets compared to Sachin Tendulkar The God Of Cricket.
Prithvi Shaw has captained India’s Under 19 squad in 2018 and won the trophy. He also led Mumbai to victory with outstanding performance and was a well-rounded captain throughout the match. It would only be a matter of time until he becomes a regular in the Indian ODI squad. He is undoubtedly a candidate to be the captain of the team in future.
Ishan Kishan
Now he may not be the first contender for the captaincy but he sure should be on the list. Ishan started his cricketing career playing for Jharkhand’s state team, he got the chance to play in the Ranji Trophy from the Jharkhand team, his performance was magnificent in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy against Delhi, scoring a whopping 273 runs. After his marvellous performance in the Ranji Trophy, he was named captain of the U-19 team.
Ishan has also made his accolades in IPL, in the 2020 IPL season he scored a total of 516 runs in 14 matches making him the only batter to score this many runs for Mumbai Indians, he won the award of most sixes in the 2020 IPL.
Talking about Ishan’s international career, the first T20I match he played for India was against England in 2021, he scored 56 runs in 32 balls. His first ODI match was against Sri Lanka where he scored 59 runs off 42 balls. Understandably Ishan has just started his career, however, we strongly believe that Ishan is the future of Indian cricket.
